Struggling to find that elusive work/life balance? Read on for a few suggestions:
Set Boundaries
Setting boundaries is one of the most important, yet difficult, things you can do. Make sure your colleagues know not to contact you when you’re on vacation. Make sure you don’t drop everything you’re doing to go into work unless it’s an absolute emergency. Setting boundaries is an act of self care and your family will be all the better for it.
Disconnect From Your Phone
When you’re on your phone, it’s all too easy to allow your work life and your home life run together. You may answer messages from family and friends at work, and email work colleagues when you’re supposed to be at home. The best thing you can do is disconnect whenever you can and fully focus on what you’re doing. If you’re with your family, whether cooking dinner or simply watching a movie together, make sure you’re fully present. If you’re at work, make sure you’re entirely focused. You’ll get so much more out of each aspect of your life this way.
Take Breaks When You Need Them
Make sure you learn how to listen to your body so you can figure out when a break is needed. During the day, having shorter, more regular breaks is usually better than taking longer breaks. As well as your daily breaks, make sure you’re also taking longer breaks in the form of your vacation time. Taking vacation time is extremely important, and you should make sure you take it. The benefits of taking vacation time are outlined in the infographic below:
