In the U.S., 1 in 5 adults reports having a mental health disorder. And let’s face it, work adds a ton of stress and anxiety to our lives.
Whether employees are stressed about job insecurity, their workloads, poor company culture, bad managers, unhealthy relationships, or a lack of purpose, there’s a lot to be stressed about. But companies can and should play a role in supporting the mental health of their employees. They can raise awareness, reduce stigmas, and adapt programs that prioritize mental health in the workplace.
Many companies have already done this. Take Deloitte, for example, which introduced a chief wellness officer to improve employees’ mental, physical, and emotional health. Or American Express, which makes mental health counselors available to its employees every week.
Many other companies are forming support groups and encouraging employees and their managers to feel comfortable sharing their struggles with mental health.
Fundera explored the ways that companies can promote mental wellness in the workplace and looked at seven companies that are experimenting with creative approaches to doing just that.
