2020 has proved difficult for businesses all over the world thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic this year. If your business has made it through so far, you have your staff to thank for working hard to help keep it afloat. Aside from the business side of things, the pandemic has taken its toll on people’s personal lives too, physically, mentally and financially. Now that you’re adapting to a new normality, and there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, you may be wondering what you can do to help your staff. Here are some wonderful tips on how to help your employees amidst a pandemic.
First and foremost, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your staff are safe in the workplace, both in terms of the pandemic and general health and safety. Not only is the well-being of your staff base at the forefront of your mind, but failure to comply with health and safety regulations could negatively affect your business. For extra protection, you may consider looking at a HIPAA Compliance Module to protect your staff and your assets.
Allow mental health days
Many of us have never experienced anything like this in our lifetimes, and the sudden onset of the pandemic shook the entire world, forcing many countries to go into complete lockdown to stop the virus from spreading. The sudden change in lifestyle, worries about health, and the financial impact may have affected your staff more than you think. Allow your staff to take mental health days, and make it clear that their well being is a priority for you too. After all, an unwell member of staff won’t perform to the best of their abilities.
Be compassionate
While it’s a rule of thumb that personal issues outside of work should be left away from the office, sometimes other commitments such as children and elderly parents can come into play. Be compassionate with your staff, and give them the time to sort things so that they can continue working hard for you. Showing compassion will result in your team appreciating you as their boss, and encourage hard work. It’s important to remember that with schools reopening that your staff may have children that need to self isolate due to a scare at their school. Be compassionate and allow your staff to work from home in these situations.
Reward your staff
Your staff have worked hard during the pandemic, and it’s thanks to them that your business is still afloat – so reward them! Show gratitude by taking them out for a staff meal (providing it’s safe to do so in your area), or rewarding them with gift cards! Or, a simple thank you will often suffice. Showing appreciation will show your staff you care and in turn, help them to appreciate you too.
2020 has been possibly the strangest and hardest years of many people’s lives. Do what you can to make the lives of your staff easier and your business will eventually reap the benefits.
