More and more businesses are turning to independent contractors rather than full-time workers to fill open positions. What draws businesses to this expanding sector of the workforce? It’s the freelancer era right now.An increasing number of workers are either giving up their traditional jobs entirely in favour of a more flexible schedule or maintaining the stability of a permanent position while working as a freelancer part-time. People are looking to do social media work, be a virtual assistant or provide IT support for law firms. Given their increasing numbers, it makes sense that businesses will eventually become interested in hiring freelancers.
Costs to Hire Freelancers
Depending on the services you need, employing freelancers can be quite inexpensive. For instance, if you only need someone for a single project, you might be able to find a freelancer who will work for less money than a full-time employee would. This is due to the fact that independent contractors are frequently more prepared to haggle over a price that benefits both sides. However, you might need to pay a greater amount to acquire a freelancer’s services if you need ongoing or regular services from them.
Access to specialist skills will be given to you
A freelancer you employ to work on a project will have a special set of skills. Additionally, as independent contractors, they have developed their abilities by working for a range of businesses. Let’s say you require assistance with managing your social media accounts, website revamps, or your small business’s finances. Finding a full-time worker with knowledge of managing all these tasks is unlikely. However, you can probably locate three independent contractors that can take care of them all.
Allows for flexibility
Employing a freelancer offers a variety of flexible options. First, decide if they will be required on a one-time or ongoing basis. You could choose to hire them on a monthly contract outlining the terms of their employment arrangement with you. Will they be engaged on a retainer or will they produce the same deliverable (like a blog) each month? A non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which gives you security and peace of mind that the information you share with them remains confidential, is something I always advise my customers to have their freelancers sign.
Build more quickly
For highly skilled positions, you can hire a top freelancer in a couple of days, but it can take six months or longer to find, hire, and onboard a full-time employee. That delay can stop your progress if you’re trying to beat the competition or achieve a deadline. Hiring highly qualified independent contractors improved their company’s time to market, increased productivity, and increased innovation.
Lower Overhead
Is there not enough room in your workplace for a new hire? Are you concerned about your ability to pay for their equipment? Consider hiring a freelancer if this is an issue and the hassles of onboarding a new employee is too much to handle. With a freelancer, you never have to worry about things like office supplies and other related concerns.
