There’s this idea that entrepreneurs have this glorious lifestyle. They get up early to exercise, eat only the finest foods, sip away at martinis during lunchtime, and relax on a yacht during weekends. This is the image that a lot of movies, shows, and even social media has painted. Are these even accurate? Maybe for some entrepreneurs, it may be but you can count it on it not being very common. Entrepreneurs don’t always have the grandest of lifestyles and they tend to be the group that neglects their health the most.
Why is that? It has something mostly to do with the fact that they’re working long hours to make their business a success. This means no time to exercise, no time for sleep, and no time on weekends or holidays for leisure. Due to their fast-paced life, entrepreneurs tend to eat fairly unhealthy food because eating is the most convenient thing they have on hand. All of this is going to spiral downwards for their physical and their mental health. Unfortunately, physical and mental health tend to be completely ignored and neglected in the entrepreneur and business owner communities. It’s usually seen as a sign of weakness.
This is something that obviously needs to be changed and there should be changes within these communities to recognize health as well as general work culture where health tends to get ignored. If you’re an entrepreneur and you’re looking to move towards a healthier lifestyle, then continue reading for some helpful tips on how you can look healthy and feel healthy while running your successful business.
Get in balanced meals
Even during the busiest of days, something such as fast food or snacks from the vending machine will be super tempting. While that may be so, it’s not worth it for your health. Your body needs to be nourished. If you’re mindlessly snacking or grabbing unhealthy food, it’s only going to make you feel worse. If you ever have any evenings or weekends free, you can look into meal prepping.
This can include having your lunch, dinner, and breakfast all planned out in advance. You can alternatively look into hiring a meal prep service to help you out but be aware that they are pricey. But this could be a great option for saving time while still eating a very healthy and balanced meal.
Commit to a routine
You’re committed to all of your meetings, right? So why not be just as committed to your routine. It’s best to just set up a routine or at least incorporate healthy habits into your routine. It’s best to have two routines if possible, one that involves your career and one that doesn’t. It’s super important to set up a time for yourself whether this time is going to be for leisure such as reading a book or for something physical like exercising. For example, you can sign up for Six Sigma Master Black Belt and you should then try to commit to this and obtain the certification. Having this set into your schedule will help make this a healthy habit.
Prioritize sleep
Everyone needs sleep and if you’re hoping to have successful ownership for your business then you need to know the importance of sleep. While you can fit a bit more time in your day by cutting down on sleep, in the long run, you’re only going to make it worse for yourself. The less you sleep, the more your health goes downward. Not getting enough sleep will lead you to have both physical and mental health issues. It’s best to have around seven to nine hours of sleep per night if possible.
Prioritize exercise
Regular exercise is important for anyone who is trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Everyone needs to get in some form of physical activity within their day. This could be something such as a brisk walk but you can even go as far as a full-body workout session at the gym. In general, your body needs exercise as this is going to have a lot of positive long-term effects (and it can keep your mind sharp as well).
It’s best to try to aim for around 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity each day whether is at a slow pace or fast pace. You can even incorporate little changes into your physical activity habits such as walking or cycling to work rather than driving or even taking the stairs over an elevator. Even if it seems too difficult to get in exercise in your day, it’s important to try to get in a little bit.
