Every business needs to drive results to get them where they want to be. But did you know that it’s the way you drive the results that will make their impact?
Whether you are the business owner, senior management, or anyone in a position to enact change and push forward, the most successful leaders possess the ability to drive results.
Being able to think critically, create a sense of urgency, determine and extrapolate the data, ask the right questions and make smart decisions are all skills great leaders have and are instrumental in the success they go on to achieve.
If you want to be that person in your business or be the business owner making waves by disrupting your industry, here are three things you need to do to get the results you want.
Accountability
Being accountable for your actions or your part in the process can help you move past any blocks in your work process and move forward to drive results. You need to hold yourself and others around you accountable for decisions and choices made that lead you to certain points, both positive and negative. Give employees autonomy to be responsible for their actions, step up to the plate without micromanaging, and hold yourself to the same standards you hold them to. If you make mistakes, own them, learn from them and hold your hands up.
Make Smarter Decisions
Your ability to make the right decision will be what helps you to make the changes and drive the growth you aim for. Your decisions need to align with your goals and be made in accordance with the data at your disposal. Is everyone on board with your decision? Are you able to explain it in a way that makes sense, and will the result benefit your team and your results?
You need to make sure you are taking everyone’s input onboard and using business process optimisation to help you examine how you work, identify key drivers, and ultimately give you the push you need to make these decisions based on fact and data, not whimsy.
Keep Learning
You can never know everything or be on top of everything all at once. You need to challenge yourself to keep learning, looking for new ways of doing what you do and challenging the status quo. If you aren’t pushing the boundaries of your capabilities, you cannot expect to do the same of your employees or business. Always seek to learn more, take up additional training to support what you do, delve into the future of your industry, keep your finger on the pulse of new changes and methods of working and don’t be afraid to admit you need support. From coaching to skills enhancement, attending conferences or leaning on peers in your industry, do what you must to stay sharp and at the top of your game to bring those results home.
Driving results isn’t simply forging ahead with getting the end goals; it’s about how you get from where you are now to where you are aiming to be and the attention to detail you put into getting these results.
